Echo Bay Pastoral Charge

Echo Bay United Church is located about 15 km east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.  Our support of this pastoral charge originated many years ago when the Rev. Dr. Bryan Lapier was minister there.  Bryan, brother of Robert of our church, served this charge for over 30 years.  During his ministry we became aware of the significant needs of the community – up to 40% unemployment which created a myriad of social needs.

During Advent, Leaside United Church forwarded $1000 to Echo Bay for their Outreach Programs.  Lorna Greene is the Outreach Chairperson and the following are excerpts from her thank-you letter.

I received your generous donation of $1,000 on Thursday, December 22, 2011.  … I am forwarding photos that were taken of our committee, a group of grade 5 students from the local school and community volunteers, who assisted with putting together 34 Christmas Cheer baskets on December 20, in the Echo Bay United Church basement.  The community support this year was amazing!  One fellow even showed up when we were packing and gave us a generous donation of $250.  What a blessing and outpouring of love!

We continue to work in our communities assisting people with not only the Christmas Cheer baskets and Easter hampers but with funds to assist people when they need help throughout the year with food or financial assistance when traveling for out-of-town medical appointments.

This past year saw three of our committee members completing the requirements of the Licensed Lay Worship Leaders course for Algoma area.  [We] have been very busy [leading] church services when a supply person is needed for the pulpit.  It has been and continues to be a very rewarding experience.

Again I thank you on behalf of our committee for your generosity throughout the years.  An official receipt will be forthcoming in the New Year.  Please pass on greetings for a Happy New Year to all on your committee and your church congregants.

God Bless You All!”
