Committees




Our church council meets on the second Wednesday of January, March, May, September and November and additionally if special meetings are required. The Council consists of all members of standing committees, all visiting elders, and ex-officio staff members.



The Co-ordinating Committee consists of the Chair, Vice-chair and Secretary of Council, Committee chairs, Ministers and church secretary. The committee's role is to co-ordinate, faciltate and prioritize. It is to set the agenda for Council meetings, schedule church events, carry-out annual nominations process, co-ordinate the work of committees and their work with staff, ensure activities are not duplicated by committees or passed-over in the belief that someone else is looking after them, enhance communications among committees, co-ordinate church functions including; identifying which issues/events should be dealt with, determining which committee should take the lead role and which other committee or group should be involved or consulted. The Co-ordinating Committee meets on the last Wednesday of every month except July and August.



The Worship Committee is responsible for the worship services, administration of the sacraments, policies for Baptism, funerals and weddings, choir and music, dramas, pageants, concerts, devotional booklets, decorations, ushering and audio tapes of services.



The Christian Development Committee is responsible for programs for faith development for all ages, church school, library, and youth groups, leadership training, Baptismal classes, re-affirmation classes, marriage preparation classes, and Bible study groups.



The Pastoral Care and Community Building Committee is responsible for elders - training and support workshops, administration of visitation schedule and districts, co-ordinating visitation, roll, directory, new members, welcoming members, fellowship groups and events. The Fellowship Committee is a sub-committee.



The Finance Committee is responsible for the Treasurer, budget and financial statements, envelope steward, count/record, payroll, investments, insurance, maintenance of church property, space utilization, audio system. Sub-committees are Property and Investments



The Outreach Committee strives to reach out to those in need in a number of ways. Members are encouraged to support the Mission and Service, World Development and Relief and White Gift funds. Disbursements from the Meta Hunter Trust fund are allocated to various organizations helping individuals that need support. Sharing information through a variety of media and promoting activities (eg. community, social justice etc) and inter-church issues are also important emphases. The Honduras Committee is a sub-committee.



The Stewardship and Communications Committee responsibilities are to conduct an annual stewardship campaign which strives to increase overall givings of time, talent and money; co-ordinate fundraising events; develop a narrative budget which describes our faith story and how our resources are used to fulfil our mission; provide various means for on-going communications such as the quarterly Happenings, the monthly Communique, brochures, advertising and this website.



The Administration Committee is responsible for recruiting and co-ordinating a small team of volunteers to help out in the church office when needed; reviewing information system requirements (hardware and software); help to maintain church archives and historical records



In accordance with the guidelines provided by the United Church of Canada, confidential consultation and support for all staff members and members of the congregation; regular review of personnel practices, working conditions and remuneration and position descriptions, annual staff evaluations and goal-setting.



The Board of Trustees duties are to hold the real and personal property of the Congregation, Church, Manse etc; to obey the lawful orders and directions of the Congregation and of its Council, and of the Presbytery and Conference; to ensure that the Church carries adequate property and liability insurance at all times; and to be responsible for the investment of surplus funds, through the Finance and Property investment sub-committees.



Provide representation for Leaside United at Don Valley Presbytery, and act as two-way communication agents bringing information from Presbytery to Council and, where appropriate, providng information to Presbytery.
