Young Adults Gathering

Young adults (“twenty somethings”) who are studying or in their early working years are warmly invited to participate in a casual get together on Saturday, Mar 14th at 11:30am at Leaside United Church. I suggest going out for lunch together. Please share the date with any young adult you know! I’m looking forward to seeing you then! If you have any questions, please contact our Young Families and Youth Leader, Natalie Jahn.

Our Sacred World

As we continue our Lent worship series Our Sacred World this past Sunday we thought about “church” – the perfect theme for an all ages service!

As 2020 is our chance to explore our “vision” of worship, we used projection, sang “Take, O Take Me As I Am” (with actions for those who wish) and “What Can I Do?” (as the offering was collected), and said hello to “Robbie”.

Rather than one long sermon, we had two short reflections – Natalie shared “What Are You Today?” and Emily shared “The Church Is…” after the children left to continue age-specific worship for the final part of the service. During this time we listened to a beautiful movement of Eleanore Daley’s “Requiem.” After our final hymn, we had our Annual General Meeting, announcements, and then the commissioning and sung blessing. This is a reminder that our work and worship are not separate from each other, but are all sacred. The meeting wasn’t long, but it included an interim budget to approve, as well as a Renovation Team report with a sneak peak (photos) of what is happening downstairs!

A time of coffee, tea, and conversation was enjoyed after the service as usual, thanks to our wonderful volunteers.

Thank you to Murray Fenner our volunteer photographer for capturing these images of the All Ages Service and the Annual General Meeting.

Spirit Alive – Saturday March 14 | 10am

We meet at 10:00 on Saturday, March 14, in the Chancel of the church. Bring your own beverage and if you like snacks to be shared.

The topic this time will be SACRED PLACES, or “ALTARS IN THE WORLD” based on the book of that name by Barbara Brown Taylor. It will be an opportunity to explore what makes a place (or time) sacred for each of us. Leadership will be by Margaret Franklin.

All are welcome.

The Variety Show 2020 Recap

The Variety Show 2020 took place on Fri. Feb 28 at 7 pm in The Sanctuary at Leaside United Church.  A “variety” (of all ages!) was there in spades, as singers, dancers, pets, instrumentalists, a laserist and a story teller all performed in the 26th Annual Variety Show. This event was performed for 24 years at Presteign-Woodbine United Church and now, due to the amalgamation of the two churches almost three years ago, the Variety Show is becoming a tradition at Leaside United!

Funds were raised to support The Neighbourhood Office (TNO) to help send children from the Thorncliffe and Flemingdon Park neighbourhoods, to summer camp.

A father and daughter team (Amy and Bob Lister), were both entertaining and looking quite dapper, as the MCs for this community event !

A Lucky Draw was held and prizes/acts/sound equipment  were  donated by many appreciated  individuals and the following local companies: Bella Rouge Hair Salon & Spa – 864 Millwood,  Classic Signs – 61 Research,  Maria Montessori  School – 125 Brentcliffe,  Olde Yorke Fish & Chips – 96 Laird, Pawsitively Pets -125 Brentcliffe,  yogiclife@aol.com

Thank you to all the audience members, volunteers and performers who made this event so special!!!   We hope to see you next year!
