Sunday, May 14 we celebrated Mother’s Day and Christian Family Sunday. Our hymns included Come In, Come In and Sit Down, I am a Child of God, and Make a Joyful Noise All the Earth. Our scripture was John 14:15-21. The Junior Choir sang Hand Me Down My Silver Trumpet, and the Chancel Choir sang You Do Not Walk Alone. On Sunday, May 7, we celebrated Asian Heritage Month. Our music included O So So, and May the Love of the Lord, both of which we will continue to sing over the next few weeks. We also learned a Laotian song, O Phi Nong Oei, with an accompaniment by Matt, which is in the recent Mennonite Hymnal, Voices Together. Our closing hymn was O For a World.
Sunday, April 30 was the Annual General Meeting, as well as our Affirming Anniversary. Our hymns included Draw the Circle Wide, Who Is My Mother?, My Love Colours Outside the Lines, and Let Us Build a House. We heard a piano improvisation for the offertory, and the choir anthem In Christ Alone. The scripture reading was Acts 2:42-47. The AGM directly followed the service where we quickly reviewed the council structures and financials, and then learned about a one year Volunteer Team pilot project.
Sunday, April 23 was Earth Sunday, and our anthems and hymns celebrated the earth. Our anthems included “When the Earth Stands Still” by Don MacDonald, and “Earth Song” by Frank Ticheli, and our hymns were “Like a Rock,” “Now the Green Blade Rises” and “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” Our children’s worship focused on bread, and both upstairs and downstairs we listened to the Emmaus story (Luke 24:13-35).
