Social Justice Project – First Nations and Métis

Leaside United Church is embarking on a discovery project to learn more about the issues facing Canada’s First Nation and Métis communities.

Our first step was to have  a special Worship Service focusing on Reconciliation process Rev. David MacDonald, the United Church of Canada’s Senior Advisor to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.  This service was held January 22, 2012 together with  a Justice Café after worship in the Hearth Room where Rev. MacDonald addressed questions from the congregation.  The Outreach Committee will be exploring other events to help us continue our journey of understanding.

The Outreach Committee of Leaside United Church is supporting an event at the end of May being held in Toronto at the Sheraton Hotel.  From the Organizing Committee:

“This Event provides an essential and important steep towards healing and reconciliation with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples in Ontario”
