A True Celebration!

From start to finish the concert on Friday, April 7 was a true celebration of our amazing Canadian wealth.  We were involved in an evening of celebration and gratitude for the riches of our fair land and of course for the stature of the Leaside pipe organ. The organ was showcased as a versatile instrument whether in a solo, accompaniment, duet or congregational song role.

To quote a member of the audience, Mary Legge: “I particularly enjoyed the variety of registration you used to such delightful effect.  Your “Sharon” Variations illustrated this so beautifully.  You and William must practice a great deal since your key speeds seemed uniform.  The Bedard “Petit Suite” is a delight and gave us a real sound bite experience of the organ.  Your registration choices in this highlighted the energy of the work so magnificently. The audience was spellbound. Mark Sirett’s “O Sons and Daughters” certainly gave us a refreshing look at this beautiful tune and text.  The choir seemed especially involved in it. Having the organ pipes to handle and inspect was a masterstroke and netted some interesting discussion. You chose a difficult task in being performer and MC of the event, however, your comments served to tie the splendid evening together so skillfully.”

Special thanks Don Fleming for the live video feed of the performers at the organ console, Cynda Fleming for her trumpet solo, the Chancel Choir –  looking so dashing in their red beads and ties, Rob Oliphant our MP for Don Valley West for his inspiring words and William Maddox for his brilliant interpretations – especially Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance.

The celebration continued with a wonderful and yummy reception – a great event for our church.
